Residential & Commercial Mold & Black Water Remediation
Waller Construction provides mold remediation and black water remediation services in Polk County, FL, and Hillsborough County, FL.
If parts of your home or business have been flooded out due to a storm, hurricane, plumbing leak, etc. and the property is inundated with water, there is a high chance you may end up needing mold remediation clean up.
- Water flooding contamination: When you have a flooding event, here are the problems that can arise:
- Wet material stays in place (without being removed) for more than 48 hours, which then increases the likelihood of mold growth.
- Super high concentrations of mold spores form due to the excess moisture being present.
- There are many types of mold, including stachybotrys – commonly referred to as “black mold”. We see this type of mold as well as Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Penicillium, Chaetomium, and many others after water events. These types of mold are very successful at feeding off of wet building materials like drywall, baseboard, etc.
- These types of mold form and spread quickly.
- You end up with higher concentrations of mold and new forms of mold on the inside of your home when comparing it to the outside (the outside is what we use as a “control” group.
- Who in your home or business may be at a health risk?
- Anyone over age 60 or under the age of 6
- Those that have allergies to mold
- Those that struggle with asthma
- Those that have compromised immune systems
- Those with other health issues may also be at risk (consult your physician if you are unsure)
- Because of these risks, you definitely want to handle your mold issue correctly.
Mold Remediation, what we can do for you
Mold remediation is a process based on thoroughly removing mold contaminates from your home or business. How do we do that? We are licensed and trained in mold remediation and we attack the remediation from several angles. Here is a step by step breakdown of our process for mold removal:
- Air quality testing: we first start by making sure the home or business is tested for mold, which can include air testing and/or surface testing. The mold testing is completed on site – testing the interior of your home or business and then also testing the outdoor space so that we have a comparison. We then have the samples taken to a third party lab, who provides a detailed lab report. We take this lab data and have a report prepared detailing what types of mold are present, if remediation is necessary based on the data, and what remediation steps will be needed.
- Containment: once we know that remediation is needed, we then first set up containment barriers – so that we can separate/isolate the remediation area from the other areas of the home.
- Filtration: We set up air scrubbers, which are air filtration machines that contain HEPA air filters. These machines pull in air, run it through the HEPA filters, and basically “scrub” the air, removing toxic spores at a rapid pace. These are specialized equipment that are made specifically for the remediation industry.
- Contents and furniture: if contents and/or furniture are in the remediation zone, we will have to address those – which would include cleaning/moving/storing these items.
- Demolition: next, we remove all of the wet and visibly molded building materials – things like drywall, baseboard, wood flooring, cabinets, insulation, etc. We double bag these items and dispose of them.
- Sanding: upon completion of the demolition, we then lightly sand any exposed wood wall or ceiling framing – which, again, removes the mold spores.
- HEPA vacuuming: upon completion of the demolition and sanding, we then take HEPA vacuum units and HEPA vacuum all of the surfaces within the remediation zone. Again, by doing so, we are removing the mold spores.
- Detailed cleaning: once the demolition, sanding, and HEPA vacuuming are finished, we then turn our attention to detailed cleaning. This involves using a cleaning solution and wiping down the surfaces in the remediation zone.
- At this point, your remediation project is ready for follow up testing. We have the area then re-tested and the samples sent to the lab for follow up evaluation. Once it is confirmed that the mold levels are within an acceptable range and no additional remediation is needed, we then take the containment down, remove our equipment, and then an re-construction can begin.
- HVAC air handlers and ductwork: we can also have your air handler and ductwork inspected, cleaned as well.
- Mold Contamination: if you have a water event, the problems you can have includeor black water remediation.
Black water sewage clean up
Black water generally occurs either from a sewage backup of some kind – or if you have a ground water flood issue (water enters the home from a river, ocean, etc. after a flood event).
Black Water Remediation is very similar to mold remediation with the following exceptions:
- The testing and remediation processes are very similar in general.
- Swab testing is generally used for black water.
- Black water carries bacteria and viruses – countless amounts of these – and for that reason black water contamination can be much more toxic and much more dangerous to your health than mold toxins.
- For this reason, it is typically recommended that anything black water touches (flooring, doors, trim, cabinets, furniture, etc.) be removed and discarded.
- If you have a black water issue, we can provide all of the necessary testing and remediation that is needed using a very similar system that is detailed in the mold remediation section above.
